Parabow visitors sink into history in the Italian mud

Roman Ships from 200 BC are slowly coming to light at the excavation of the old river port of Pisa. Parabow visitors saw at first hand the work being carried out to raise the fragile remains of Roman warships and merchant vessels from the grey mud that engulfed them over 2000 years ago.

All aboard the Viking Longship
Steen, Anders, Erkki, Yuri, Graham, Paul, Andy, and Gunnar ended their stay in Iceland with a trip round the bay at Reykjavik. The craftsmen took to the oars in the re-constructed longship.

1000 Year Old Wood Fragments Identified in Iceland Church Site

Wood Fragments Identified
The wood identification showed us that the church in Seydisfjördur was made of driftwoood, that was probably collected on the shore. The wood identification also showed that one of the coffins that was found in the graveyard was made of larch.

Alnus sp (Alder) radial section

The identification of the wooden samples from the 1998 excavation on a church and a surrounded graveyard at the abandoned farm called Thorarinsstadir, located in Seydisfjordur, S-Mulasysla, Iceland, has been performed by means of observation through a Scanning Electron Microscope.
